Spline Shafts

A spline shaft is a type of mechanical transmission component. Similar to flat keys, woodruff keys, and taper keys, it is used to transmit mechanical torque. The outer surface of the shaft is equipped with longitudinal keyways, and the rotating parts mounted on the shaft also have corresponding keyways, which can maintain synchronous rotation with the shaft. While rotating, some components can also slide longitudinally on the shaft, such as the shift gears of a gearbox.

1. Function: It is a type of mechanical transmission component. Similar to flat keys, woodruff keys, and taper keys, its main function is to transmit mechanical torque.
2. Structure: The outer surface of the shaft is provided with longitudinal keyways, and the rotating parts sleeved on the shaft are also equipped with corresponding keyways, which can maintain synchronous rotation with the shaft. While rotating, some components can also slide longitudinally on the shaft, such as the shift gears of a gearbox.
3. Application Examples: It is applied in brakes and steering mechanisms. There is also a retractable shaft, which consists of an outer tube and an inner tube. The outer tube has internal teeth and the inner tube has external teeth, and they are sleeved together. During use, it can transmit rotational torque while extending and contracting in the length direction.

5. Heat Treatment: Quenching, with a surface hardness of HRC45–50
