Function of Universal Joint Shaft Coupling
In principle, either end of the Universal Joint Shaft Coupling can serve as the driving or driven end. During installation, it shall comply with the design specifications of the transmission system, and the spline pair shall be kept as far away from vibration or impact sources as possible.
For retractable Universal Joint Shaft Coupling with spline pairs, check whether the arrow marks on the spline shaft and spline sleeve are aligned during installation to ensure that the phase difference between the axes of the yoke bearing holes at both ends does not exceed 1°.
Before installation, clean off oil stains and dry the flange surface. A torque wrench must be used for the flange connecting bolts, which should be tightened to the specified pre-tightening torque. The mechanical property grades of the bolts and nuts shall be 10.9 and 10 respectively.
Before tightening the bolts, clean the threaded parts with a cleaning agent and apply a small amount of 242 adhesive, then tighten them in a staggered manner (low-hardness washers are not allowed).
Appropriate safety protection measures must be taken at all locations where personal injury or equipment accidents may be caused by the operation of the universal coupling.
Long-term overload operation and operational accidents of the universal coupling should be avoided, otherwise its service life will be reduced.
The Universal Joint Shaft Coupling shall be sufficiently lubricated. The bearing part shall be replenished with lubricating grease once a week at the initial stage of operation, and once a quarter after normal operation, while the spline pair shall be replenished with lubricating grease once every six months. When replenishing grease, new grease should be extruded from the T-shaped oil seal until new grease overflows.
The operating Universal Joint Shaft Coupling shall be observed regularly:
(1) Whether there is abnormal noise;(2) Whether there is axial movement of the cross assembly;(3) Whether the radial runout is normal.
For a normally operating universal coupling, the maintenance period is generally six months to one year, or inspection shall be carried out during the maintenance of the associated equipment. The items to be inspected include:
(1) The surface wear of the cross pin journal, bearing outer ring and short cylindrical rollers; measure the radial clearance and check whether there are indentations, pitting, spalling, fragmentation and other phenomena on the contact surface. If any of the above phenomena is present, replacement shall be carried out.
